Hi Jody,
So the school where you may decide to tutor, is that the same school you had gone to for elementary school?

No, it's not my school. It's my stepsister and stepbrother's school... it's in the same school district and I really don't like the school district (and the teachers are always going on strike for the low pay) but I understand the school district pretty well.

Hi Jody,
So do any of your friends volunteer to be tutors?

Nopers, I'm the only one... I'm usually the one tutoring my friends!

Hi Jody, I admire your energy, I think it's great--helping people.

I'm reviving this thread again because yesterday I browsed the Art Institute site again and found a huge section of links and opportunities that I'd missed before.

I had my final day of my part-time seasonal job this week.

Are you looking for work outside the home?

Hi,
Just to clarify,...when I said "Are you looking for work outside the home,"--I am asking that to whomever is reading this--Jody, I know she'd gotten out in the job market already...

Hi,
Time spent away from home with my in-laws has me thinking about what I really want to pursue as far as an occupation. I think I want to try volunteering again at the AIC, but I have misgivings about it. I don't know if my misgivings are simply my fears of people or if I sense there is a better path for me.

I did search the art institute (AIC) website again, and I again saw something I hadn't caught before--there are several internships which are listed as *available*--including one in the Print&Drawing Dept which is where I want to be. (I've visited the part of P&D which is open to the public).

So I plan to check that out over this weekend...

How is your job?

Hello,
Yesterday I volunteered at Art Institute of Chicago Membership office doing filing for an hour and a half. I like the people in that office. It was great because I've been lonely since coming back from vacation (I was getting used to spending every moment with my husband, and now that we're home, he goes to work and I'm all alone). This was the 6th day in 08 that I've volunteered there. I plan to do that every Wednesday from now on. I will be starting my new paying job this coming Thursday (pending that the manager at the Museum of Contemporary Art gets back to me with the schedule). So I'll work part-time as a gallery officer at the MCA and volunteer once a week at the AIC...

Are you volunteering and/or working someplace?

Hi EA,

I'm new to this thread, so forgive me for being late in this feedback, but your September transciption of the dialogue that had been going on in your head regarding working/volunteering rang so true for me.

I debate whether I'm up for a regular job, but I know that I need the health insurance benefits. If I can get a regular job, I debate whether I can handle one with any level of responsibility, which would therefore pay more. I'm reliant upon my parents for a lot of my bills getting paid, and that is very difficult for me because I have unresolved dependency issues and my relationship with my mother is very complicated. The whole job topic is what has been causing me the most stress lately.

Keep updating the thread, I have enjoyed seeing how far you've made it!

Sarah

Thanks Sarah, good to hear from you.

I got an email from the manager at the MCA saying training starts this Thu. So I'm glad. There will be two other new people starting the same day as me. I get to wear a uniform, red shirt and black pants. I went out and got some new shoes to go with it. I actually like uniforms, makes me feel a part of the group.

What is your job now?

I volunteer at a nursing home in their store 1 day a week. I find it's not enough though. I've been there almost 14 years.
