I have been on Zoloft (125 mg) for almost two years now. For the last two weeks I have been experiencing constant headaches (I don't normally have them) and insomnia. Could high dose of Zoloft be causing it?
I stopped drinking wine after starting Zoloft, but someone who has been on anti-depressant most of her life (!) told me it was okay to drink an occasional glass of wine. Since I missed not drinking, I took her advice and started to drink wine since last October (no adverse effect).
The prescribing doctor (family practice) had told me that he would put me on Zoloft for about two years and then I could slowly stop. He has now left the clinic and my new doctor is on maternity leave, I do not know whom to ask, so I am here.
Seralee, I've no idea whether or not you're still reading this forum, but I'll post this anyway.
Is there no other possible cause for your headaches than the Zoloft? I ask because I know there are so many different causes for headaches that it can sometimes be hard to figure them out. Some things which can cause headaches include:
Changes in visual acuity (new prescription for glasses, wonky computer monitor, strange light effects at this time of the year, etc)
Dehydration (particularly if it causes sinus congestion)
Muscular tension (such as that caused by stress)
Not enough sleep (so there's the insomnia for you)
Try to eliminate as many of these factors as possible before blaming the headache on the Zoloft. Drink more water, get your eyes checked out (it may be that you're experiencing the early signs of normal changes in eye shape which happen as part of the aging process), try some relaxation exercises or a professional massage to relax your upper body (particularly the neck and jaw), and definitely see about getting the insomnia treated. Best of luck.
