Hi Everyone,
I am 24 years old and was on prozac since I was about 18. I recently came off it, expecting it to be a smooth transition due to the very nature of SSRI's and what I have heard about them. However, it has been a real struggle and I have been rapidly moving from feeling pleased with myself for coming off it to entering deep depressions that turn up very suddenly and which leave me fearful of falling backwards. Has anyone else experienced any negative effects when coming off prozac? Have you succeeded and have any advice? Either way, I would love to hear from you.

hi lonely,,
i am currently taking prozac, and have for years, one thing i do know, you have to wean off it very slowly, like most meds.
i was taking 60 mgs per day, i have weaned myself to 20 mgs per day, as i feel that it is not working any more...
when i first started taking it, i felt much better, but, that soon changed.. now, i cant tell i am taking it, but, i know better than to just stop...
i wish there was a magic pill!!!! but, they all seem to have bad side effects.. i have tried many
you may want to speak to your doc about this, you are probably like me, i have to take something...
stopping a drug can cause you to become psycotic.. be very careful. that could be what you are experiencing...
your body gets very used to these drugs.. talk to you doc!!!!
god bless,, cloe47

Taper Slowly!
I took 2 months to taper off 20mg and had no withdrawal to speak of.
First I took 20mgs for 2days on 1day off, then switched to 10 mgs. every day, then every other day, then every third day, then every fourth day and stopped... No withdrawal at all... Slow and steady over 8 weeks. |
