I'm a 22-year old male and I recently got off of Fluoxetine (Prozac). My sex drive is just dead. I'm not even sexually active anyway, but I used to get excited just being NEAR a pretty girl... now I can be on a date and hold one in my arms and there's practically nothing going on...
About how long does it take until things are back to normal? I was on the drug for about 8 months, and was on Celexa for about 4 years prior to that. The Celexa never affected me sexually in any way that I know of though.
I'm a bit concerned because I've been off of it for 3 months now and haven't noticed any difference whatsoever. I've heard some nasty internet rumors that sometimes this side effect is permanent, and they're really starting to get to me. Meanwhile, I'm getting over a mild case of mononucleosis and wonder if that might somehow be related...
Meanwhile I don't think the other side-effects have abated, either. My energy is low. My appetite is low. Worst of all, I feel numb emotionally.
Anyway - there's got to be some guys on here who have taken the stuff. How long did it take until the horomones came back? Or until the other side-effects abated?

Strangely enough, I had a very similar experience. After switching from Welbutrin to Prozac I noticed bothersome digestion , dwindling appetite, and extremely low energy levels (low enough to investigate hypothyroidism as a cause). I can't say that I felt emotionally dead after switching, but I definitely felt that way when I tried out Zyprexa for a couple of months. Also, I fell ill to mononucleosis after switching, and I'm convinced that the illness took a toll on my mental state. It took a while to recover, just like a scar healing, but everything seemed to return to normalcy. However, my energy, appetite, and sleep habits still give me problems, but I have a feeling that these symptoms may be manifesting due to other medical conditions and lifestyle choices. I'm not recommending in any way that you follow what I did, but what seemed to resolve the problem for me was as radical a change in my life as I felt was necessary to shake the depression. After 5 years I dropped out of college and began to pursue what I actually wanted to do instead of being molded vicariously by professors who wanted nothing more than to further their own careers by taking advantage of motivated, intelligent, competent people. Hmmm, someone is still a little bitter... Either way, stay in close contact with someone about how you are feeling. Having some form of support is imperative, whether it is a doctor, friend, or family member. The ability and capacity of the human body to heal are unbelievable and can surpass what even modern medicine would expect. Don’t lose hope that things will get better, you can’t see the stars unless it’s dark. Find those little things that shine through the darkness and use them to pull you back to where you want to be.
