We who suffer from depression often suffer from negative self-talk. This is a cycle that is difficult to break. I have found that the Hazelden Mediation Series of books helps me a great deal to dispell my negative self-talk, even during times of great stress.
The Hazelden Meidation Series follows the format of the 12 Steps of Alcholics Anonymous. However, they are written for people under a variety or circumstances. You don't have to be an alcoholic to benefit from these books. I have the following books:
EACH DAY A NEW BEGINNING, mediations for women. There is a book called TOUCHSTONES, which are mediations for men. DAYS OF HEALING, DAYS OF JOY, mediations for adult children of alcoholics. This book is good for anyone who had an abusive childhood. INNER HARVEST is for people who have an eating disorder. This was actually my first book. My niece gave it to me about 25 years ago. I loved it sooo much I went out and bought the other three that I have. NIGHT LIGHT contains positive mediations for the evening. I love to read this one before going to bed for the night.
You can purchase these books at your local bookstore or on-line at http://www.hazelden.org/servlet/hazelden/thoughts?page_id=25020. You can also read daily affirmations at this web-site from any of their books. Another marvelous feature of this site is you can look up affirmations to fit your mood. Are you feeling lonely? Put "lonely" in the search box of the affirmation page. All the affirmations will come up regarding loneliness by date. You can then read as many affirmations as you want.
