Hi
I have been on a variety of SSRI', just come off Mirtazapine due to adverse side effects and am thinking of the above when I finally get to see a pyschiatrist (ive been diagnosed for over a year, thats the wonderful English mental health system!).
Can anybody share their experiences?
Much obliged |

Hi This Spitfire/aka Sasha
I tried manerix and found it affected my heart.
One day I was walking down the hallway at home and I started to feel really strange.
Then my heart started to flop around like a fish out of water.
I went an laid down and called the hospital. They told me to stop taking it immediatley. I did and the attack or spasm was the only one I ever had. It really scared me though.
Sasha is my dogs name. |

Hello Everyone!
Just a quick update on my progress on Moclobemide.
Thankfully, for the first time in over a year, i actually dont feel like im on any medication - as in my head feels normal, i feel ok and im not sleeping for England!
No side effects at all so far and having gone up to 300mg per day im feeling well on the depression front too!
I was very hesitant to try the older medications but I would recommend anyone having problems with SSRI's to give it a go!
Best of luck to all. x |

Hey I'm glad I read your post. Just today my Dr. prescribed Manerix for me. I've tried Effexor which did not work at all for my depression and also killed my ability to orgasm. So then we tried Celexa and although it seems to be working for the depression, the orgasm problem remains. (I made it quite clear that I'm not willing to compromise on this one. No way honey.)
So now I have to wait 2 weeks to get the Celexa SSRI out of my system before I try this MAO.
Do I need to make any dietary changes for this one? I know some MAO's have a long list of dietary restrictions (old cheese, red wine, and a bunch of other stuff)..but Manerix only listed a few.
Has anyone experienced any sexual side effects from this med? |

HI Tracey
I am totally with you on the anorgasmia. It sucks! For myself, this returned slowly over a period of about a month, with satisfaction and sensation increasing to full pre-med sensitivity.
I know there is quite a long list of foods you arnt supposed to eat with MAOI's. From what I gather, this can only cause you problems if you eat these foods in large quantities, fortunately I do not eat pate, liver etc at all so I have found no problems in this regard. If you are concerned - its best to check with a doc as there is usually a difference between the warnings on the leaflet and practical interactions.
Hope that helps
MB

Hello All!
Further update. I have finally got an appointment to see a clinical psychologist and have a massive total of six sessions to impress on her that I need psychological intervention for my long term mental health and quality of life.
Only thing is, I feel pretty damn good on the Moclobomide, its hard to remember just how bad I felt (which was pretty bad and very suicidal). All I can say for anyone offered Moclobomide is to take it and try it - I initially disregarded it going for the newer drugs but they didnt suit me - and now I feel like this medication is not just managing my depression but is almost evening out my depression so that I feel normal. Even a lot of my anxieties have lessened or disappeared -I feel happier in myself and generally feel a lot brighter. My partner has noticed a massive difference in me.
I am now looking into the future, into taking a degree and living a happy and fulfilling life. Whilst my mental health problems are by no means behind me, I do feel like I have come to the crest of the hill, and am now on the even plateau, having got over the uphill struggle. I know I have to face psychotherapy and then coming off the tablets at some stage, but for now, I feel like I have been given a new start in life.

Hey there MB, Thanks for the advice. I know I can give up red wine, old cheese and pepperoni without a problem. The only thing I know I'll have trouble with is that we cannot take cold&cough medications. This will definately suck when I do get a cold. Oh well, if it works for my depression then it'll be worth it.
Thanks for the update. You sound like you've got it together (just having the motivation to look into a degree speaks volumes!) I'm very happy for you. and I hope that I'll be able to feel the same in a matter of time. I do feel my depression coming back slowly, (yelling at the kids way too much the past few days) as I've been off the Celexa for a week and I still have another week to go before starting the Moclobemide..(and FYI my anorgasmia was cured within days of stopping the Celexa.. hooray, she's BACK.) I know that my depression never got to the depths that yours (and many others) did. I've only been suffering from it for maybe 6 months but it only got bad in the past few months and I recognized something was definately wrong. Anyhow, I'm very glad you're getting better and I'm glad that you have updated us on the Moclobemide as I've had a lot of trouble getting any information on it because it's not that widely used anymore. Best of luck and let us know how it goes with the psychologist. I'll update here again once I've started the meds and let you know how it's working for me. Till then take care. .. Tracy |

Hi Tracey
Thanks for your post and best wishes. I know its hard coming off one medication onto another (I ended up being hospitalised once as I was taken off one too quickly) but if you can stick with it its well worth it.
I used to get very frustrated at the length of time it took to wait for a tablet to work, then changing the dose, then changing and all the while you still feel dreadful! All I can say is that its totally worth it when you do find the med for you that really works. I had begun to believe that I would never find one and was beginning to loose hope of ever feeling better - and look at me now!
As for coping with your symptoms in the meanwhile just ensure that your friends and family know that you are having a difficult time and accept help - if someone offers to take the kids out for a day - let them - and have some "you" time. Its really important that you do things that make you feel good, even though its often hard to do.
I used to count the days down and just take each day as it came. I was signed off from work which helped in one way but hindered me in another - as I would just sit passively in the house thinking how crap my life was! Make sure your day is busy, but not stressful by overdoing it. Exercise is a wonderful reliever of depression - just going for a half hour walk in the countryside helps masses.
I hope that helps and wish you the best of luck with your changeover. Dont loose heart.

Hello All
Firstly just wondering how Tracy65 is getting along? Hope you are doing ok.
I am now six weeks into my psychologists sessions and two weeks post cold turkey from Moclobomide (Manerix). I feel ok and better for not being on the tablets. The side effects were wearing me down quite a bit (lots of nausea and apathy) and so i decided to give it a bash au naturel. Its been a bit up and down but doing ok and its nice for the first time in a year to feel something and know that I am actually feeling it in its true capacity, unaffected by any mediation or numbed by the black hole of depression. Im not saying i have turned the corner yet but its possible that it may be there soon.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Please keep us informed of your progress!

Hi All
Hope I'm doing this right, don't know where this post will end up - it was meant for the thread involving Mistress-Bondage and Moclobemide. I too live in England and suffer under the slow wheels of the NHS mental health system. I have been to A & E three times and have only now, after one year been offered an appointment with a psychiatrist and soem mental health support. i live in Brighton which is one of the worst for mental health.
I was wondering whether you suffered any anxiety with your depression as that seems to be a comorbid thing with me making it hard to find a med - the changing dose/drug is hell I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Also it was wierd - i was initially presribed Fluoxetine 20mg and was on it for thirteen weeks, but felt like I was electrified, jittery on it and had to counteract with Diazepam. I decide to come off it and wouldn't you know it I felt great after about a week to two weeks - Fluoxetine has a long half life and I was just wondering if the dose was too high for me. After about 6 weeks thought my symptoms re-appeared (approx how long it takes for prozac to come out completely). Wish I'd realised it at the time and stayed on 10mg or something - I too am now trying to wean off Mirtazapine. Hell. Hope you are improving still. I am just confused but have my appt with psych tomorrow. very nervous.

Hi,
I'm new to this, and have had Psychosis for 7 years now, and have been told that I have a very mild case of depression. I've been put on LUVOX, which, as mentioned in some of these posts, have caused me to get anorgasmia. Has anyone had this, and is it cure-able??? I'm freaking out here.
Thanks!
