Hi, I am a newbie, and really need some help. I am not sure if this is the area I need to be in, but I constantly worry about my hubby and where he is at and what he is doing all the time. He has had 2 affairs in the last 5 years. And I constantly worry that I am going to lose him and he will be unfaithful again. I have a really hard time concentrating on work, household tasks, and my kids. I don't want to be this kind of person. I need help in how to stop this once and for all. I always interogate him about his where abouts. He is an over the road truck driver. I was also sexually abused as a child. I go to counseling here at home once a week, and I really like talking with my counselor, but I feel I almost need to on a daily basis. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. |

Does getting music stuck in your head for hours (sometimes days) count as obsessive thinking? I know it happens to everyone, but for me it can go on and on.
Today it is German Oompah band music.
It actually isn't too bad as at least it's the whole song. I really hate it when it's just one phrase running through my head over and over and over. ARGH! I also prefer instrumentals to anything with lyrics. The Washington Post March is one that pops up regularly, as does "O Mio Bambino Cara" (from a Puccinin opera). The last one has words, but since it's in Italian, I just hear the music. |

re: music Oops, I did that last reply incorrectly. Sorry! Yes, repetitive music is also OCD. I've had the same instrumental tune (only a couple phrases) for over 10 years. It's with me daily. Most days I can copewith it really well now,but when my stress level goes up, or I'm hypomanic, so does the intensity, speed of the music, and my coping ability is challenged. I've learned to live with it, though, and it doesn't drive me crazy anymore. |

The music in the head thing is OCD thinking, and I still have that. What I don't have is two hours of circular thoughts every night. I sure don't miss that!!!
Cloud says I'm OCD about a lot of little things that no one who is not living with me would notice. I hadn't considered that, but after she said it, I did start noticing odd little things that were OCD (or kind of OCD).
I don't really think about it since the only OCD obsessive thoughts I have are related to music.
I'm just grateful that I don't have full blown OCD.

I have some problems with OCD. I get obssessive suicidal thoughts...popping into my head and attacking my mind over and over and over again. I can never stop them. In fact the more I try the harder they come at me.
I also have lots of OCD symptoms if I am under alot of stress. I will leave the house and think "did I unplug the iron?" I will go back in and check, leave the house, get a block away and wonder the same thing again and feel compelled to go check again as I feel unsure I checked it correctly the last time I went in to check.
I also get some OCD contamination fears. I avoid situations where I think I might get lice or bedbugs...yuck! Which means I am afraid to stay in hotel, go to movies at the theatre, sit in soft chairs in public places, try on, or buy hats, I get stressed out even trying on clothes because I am afraid of getting lice transferred onto me.
When I really begin obssessing about these things I go out of my mind feeling like I am covered in bugs and begin obsessively checking myself for signs of infestation ...it's brutal.
I think all the time when I get any disturbing, life impacting OCD symptoms (I have your everday obssessibe thoughts all the time with my depression), but when the OCD stuff gets really bad it is always when I am really, really stressed out. ...aqua |

I get the OCD stuff alot. Especially during a stress filled time. Latest one was waking up to hear Queen Latifah singing, "Poetry Man". and the darn song kept coming into my thoughts, But, it's ok as it's a nice song. And, once I tracked down where it came from, memory wise, I was even more relieved.

Hi Aqua, I am new to this online community. I read your post about all of your obsessive thinking...You and I have a whole lot in common!! I am a recovering alcoholic, been sober on and off for years and was diagnosed bi-polar about 8 months ago. My biggest issue is the obsessive worrying. It's awful, and I feel like a prisoner to it. The checking thing, I do this every single day. I worry about everything and everyone, I know some of it is irrational, but it's very, very hard to control. I have been on all kinds of different medications in the past, and currently I take Lexapro, Lamictal and Wellbutrin. Hopefully this combo will keep helping me. Let's keep in touch!!!

I heard of a great book by Jeffrey Schwartz called " Brain Lock " that is supposed to be good. He's an expert on OCD. Hope this helps. He also has a newer book out that he co-wrote with a female about all kinds of worry. Best wishes. L |

Hi, Laurianne,
I have a book called Your Erroneous Zones recommended to me by a therapist. When I went to the bookstore I was surprised to see a whole section of books by Dr. Wayne Dyer. He is like Dr. Phil's ghost or something!
