Hi
Obsessions are the worst symptom I have at times. When I am faced with a problem that I consider important, unfair, unsolvable, or captivating, my family can kiss me goodbye until the obsession passes. My psychiatrist isn't much help other than acknowledging that I become obsessed (I already knew that doc!! that's why I'm here!!)
If you have been reading my posts elsewhere in this forum you'd see I'm currently obsessed with human rights issues.
The object of the obsession becomes my whole life. It's all I think about day and night, and if I wake up in the middle of the night it's there.
Does anyone else get obsessive thoughts?

xyzcindy-
I have dealt with obsessional thinking which was later determined to be delusional by my pdoc. She(at the time) gave me a test called the Y-BOCS(sp?). It is an indicator of OCD, which is very common with bipolar disorder.

Hi FH
Injustice drives me crazy too! Like you, my family can kiss me good-bye if I'm captivated by something. I don't think I'm dellusional at all - they really are out to get me - LOL. I'm going to look up OCD. Do you have any special methods of getting out of obsessions?

Has any one dealt with obsessing over a person? My husband is obsessed with his ex-girlfriend from highschool (almost 20 years ago). He found her via the internet now they both want divorces so they can marry each other. He starts text messaging her as early as 3:30 am and sends her approx 2 dozen messages a day, plus phone calls, sending pictures, e-mailing and web cam calls. It is all sex based.
It's hard to believe that this is the result of bipolar, but his mother and brother are bipolar and he has all the symptoms. My husband is like a stranger to me now. I thought we had an unbreakable bond and that we were best friends. Now I see the e-mails where they laugh at me and how I disgust him. He thinks everything I say or do is mean.
This is especially hard because after being together for 13 years we just had a baby. We just started our family and this man who has wanted a baby forever walked out on his family when our son was only 8 months old because he "doesn't love me any more".
I would love to hear from anyone who has bipolar who has gone through an obsession like this. What were you thinking and feeling? How did you feel about your spouse/significant other when you were having the affair? How/when did you snap out of it? Were you a different person afterwards?
Thanks in advance for your insight. I really need to figure all this out. |

I used to be obsessed with a person I knew from the past when I was marriend and just had a child. I used to call min ten times a day, walk under his windows. I quit the graduate school and got divorced. I snapped out of it when I frose in the winter standing under his windows. Then the reality hit me. I remembered how much I loved my husband, but it was too late.

Hi there,I am bipolar and struggled a few years ago with obsession with another person. It was really very messy. I decided it had to stop, went into Primal psychotherapy and also SLAA (Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous). I wrote a small book about what I learnt, the cycle of obsession and also how to break it. Today I am free of it. Take a look at www.whenlovehasgone.com it might be helpful. |
