I think it is a safe bet that most of us here, at one time or other have experienced the side effects of unpleasant emotions, but how about outbursts...... in particular 'angry' outbursts.
I believe there are anger management techniques out there one can adopt, to help overcome such negative behaviour. Has any member been on such a course, who would like to share their experience of same within this forum.
Cheers, David

Hey, davidt! Good to see you. I have not taken a special course, but I've developed some of my own techniques. They are odd, but they work for me.
1. Ripping up old newspapers into tiny shreds
2. Burying my face in my hat, which smells like my lavender shampoo, and inhaling deeply.
3. Rubbing my bare feet on carpeting/rugs
4. Singing songs that are loud and fast
5. Going out on a bicycle and pedaling fast (with a helmet, of course).
6. Knitting or crocheting.
7. Writing stories in which bad things happen to bad people
And only once did I have to throw things, but all the things were non-breakable.
Best of blessings and lots of love. |

I do not have anger issues but my husband sure does. He get so angry over the smallest things. I think that he is very depressed and it shows up in anger. He is going to see the doctor on Friday so hopefully they will give him something to deal with his anger as it is very hurtful and hard to live with. |

I so rarely get angry that I haven't had to develop any special techniques. I did have a couple of bouts of road rage as a younger man but those days are long gone. I am generally pretty darn mellow.
As my friend Adrien used to say, easy does it.

As I've discussed here before, I often have anger issues. I have learned anger management techniques in a course, but can't seem to put them into place when it comes down to it. I do find African drums music is sometimes effective... |

Hello damamfive, was reading this forum and wanted to lean what classes did you take and whether they were effective to help you deal with anger. Relaxation is important, this is where it starts actually and gives you some clarity to analyze the situation and apply new ways of thinking. Did you learn any good anger management techniques that you can share? I'm compiling some research and can share when I'm done. http://angermentor.com Take care! |

well, I had a fit tonight. Don't like that. past week has been stressful. to the point of not being able to speak coherently. That scares me too.
Tonight, I was doing dishes, making dinner, and was over heated, ( I wore scrubs over flannel pj bottoms, to go out.) Life is like that alot for me, No time to clean up I just race out the door. to the store, like a mad woman.
Any way, I was over heating, and started crashing dishes into the sink.
Was mad at my son for never, ever, ever helping out.
Am out of oil of primrose too, for change of life crazies,
That stuff really DOES help.
I had my fit, took every pill I could to calm down and now feel ashamed of myself.
I am taking on too much, emotionally.
I need to read the article linked above.

Lynn...don't worry about getting angry sometimes. We all do. Or most of us.
For me, I do one thing when I am angry...my voice gets louder and I say very firmly that I am getting angry. If people do not listen to what I have to say, I will get more angry. Adopted son knows to lay low and it will blow right over. As my fuse is short and sweet.
My son, thinks back talking helps....oh, it makes me furious. I will be understanding once and clarify...then it is fair game...and I will unleash my fury.
Yelling is the worst. I might break something...might...but usually not.
Then it is over. And I do not often feel bad about it. |

I have anger issues. Currently directed at one person. My (ex) husband. I think it's justified anger though. When I got home and he had took the children I broke 2 lamps against the wall and two ashtrays. Calmed down and cleaned the mess up. I felt better. I'm sure there were other ways to deal with it.
