just wanted to pop a quick post to let you know how im doing with my withdrawal.
I was on Venlafaxine for a year or so and everytime i tried to come off the medication I was put on Duloxetine as a mediator for the withdrawal. The trouble is I suffered very badly with the Duloxetine and had to return back onto Venlafaxine.
When I last begged my psychiatrist for another way to come off the Venlafaxine he told me that i should increase my dosage instead of comming off it - which is what happened!! I trusted his knowledge and judgement, but i wasnt happy.
I get on very well with my GP and decided to air my concerns over the Venlafaxine and being increased to 235mg dosage. My GP actually listened to me and gave me an alternative drug - which i could use straight away and i didnt have to wait to slowly decrease the Venlafaxine!! I was very dubious because I know that in the past going cold turkey etc was an absolute nightmare physically!!
But GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!
Im now into my second week of my new drugs - and i can honestly say Ive suffered very little side effects of withdrawal!! I simply stopped taking Venlafaxine 235mg one day and the next day i took my new meds! For three days I felt kinda "spaced" and had migraines, but thats all the effects I had! Im now into my second week of new meds and I feel great for comming off the Venlafaxine!!!
Ohh by the way my new drug - Citalapram 20mg daily.
I have to report back to my GP before my 28 deay perscription runs out, to see how im doing. Then i have a choice to try another medication, carry on with citalapram or to stop taking medication all together.
So I just thought id share this with you incase it helps anyone who may wish to seek advice on taking this route to withdrawal!!
Hi Whitesnow... were you able to stop the new medication without withdrawl? You didn't really state whether or not this new med was just to help with the Effexor symptoms or it was a long term replacement.
I wish hope you will be healthy soon and get a healthy and relaxed life. I am also amazed in spite all these things you are happy from heart. Try to do such ivoryresearch things to keep yourself busy which is good. Keep it up!
