I also have big problems with weight and obesity. I'm on respiridone and seroxat, I'm currently more than twice the weight I was before I was medicated. When I was first ill I was 24' waist. I don't think its worht being depressed or schizoid or manic just to lose weight however,
Perhaps you could talk to your doctor about that and see if there are any medications you could take that wouldn't cause such a lot of weight gain. My pdoc managed to find some for me after I gained 45 pounds. It took about a year and a half , but I finally lost it all.

Hi, John and Niney. I, too, have gained what I consider a lot of weight for me (small frame, small bones) and can't lose it. When I weighed my ideal weight, I biked for miles, ran, hiked, lifted small weights, did step aerobics, etc. I'm 62 now and have so many aches and pains that I can barely drag myself through yoga class and walk 45 minutes a day. So, age and less exercise are definitely a factor for me; however, I'm sure meds are too.
What meds did your pdoc switch for you that helped stop the weight gain? Then, what did you do to lose the weight? Join a program or group?
Having depression PLUS weight gain seems so "unfair." One or the other is bad enough.
The fact that you used to starve yourself for months might just be the problem. Whenever you suddenly start eating less, your body's metabolism adjusts to compensate for the caloric energy loss. The result is that your body becomes very stingy and burns fat less efficiently. So whenever you go back on your regular diet schedule, you will end up gaining weight. The key is to keep a positive mindset and continue what you're doing now. You can do it.....
