I just finished checking out the scientology websites from the internet and have to say I'm a bit confused. When I first went through my depression episode, a couple years ago, I was almost convinced that the doctors I was dealing with weren't helping at all. I mean the only people I trusted was my immediate family members at that time. Over time I began to open up to my phycologist and this has been beneficial for me. Most recently I went on 150 mg of Effexor... Not feeling any better mentally but I am feeling confused alot more. I'm wondering if the diagnosis was correct or if the medication is wrong for me. I can't help but think about what if I don't have depression. What if these pills I am taking aren't correcting the problem. I wonder if there is any cases where somebody thought they were suppressed and then took prescribed medicine thinking they were depressed. I wonder what would happen to somebody if that was the case. Sometimes I wonder if that is what happen to me. I don't know if it's denial but I do have to wonder about this. Perhaps a social phobia of some sort maybe what is wrong. I really am confused about this...
I was quite the party animal up until I just quit socializing because I was getting tired of the same-o things. Drinking games, talk about old sports stories... somebody does something stupid and we laugh about it and have a story for the next weekend. Brutal alcoholic cycle now that I think of it.
Please feel free to offer some insights?

well first of all i think scientology is a cult, there for... not true. they trick you to be a believer. you go downtown toronto and they tell you that you are sick because you have problems, yea ? who doesn't have problems... lol
they aren't truth! |

| I agree, it is definitely a cult. I live near their Florida base, and have to wait for them to cross the street by the dozens. They wear a variety of "naval" uniforms. My son in law's family joined in another country, and moved here to be near the local headquarters. He got out, along with his sisters, but his parents still have ties. I've done loads of research on this group, and it is chilling. But, anyway...if you are looking in to them because of their take on psychiatry, and psych. drugs, don't allow yourself to become confused. They absolutely hate the psychiatric field (witness the recent Tom Cruise circus). My son-in-law won't even let my daughter take a Tylenol. Please do research on what they really are... a cult invented by a man that said, and I paraphrase...why write books at a penny a page, when you can invent a religion? He was a prolific writer that wrote 1000 page books, so you know he loved his pennies. |

I suffer from OCD and depression. I am a recovering alcoholic and an addict, clean and sober for over 16 years. Part of my story is that in 1975 I joined a cult, the cult was the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church (Moonies).
There I was on "Fathers Special Task Force" fundraising team. I also became a Captain of a NY fundraising team. Then I became Director of Transportation for the Manhattan NY Unification Church. From there I became a personal driver for Rev. Sun Myung Moon's right hand man, Rev. Sudo. I also drove for other UC leaders.
In this experience I was beaten, kicked, abused verbally and physically. I was put on forced 7 day fasts of just water. I lost all my belongings and I was ordered to no longer talk to my disabled parents. (They are both deaf.) I have seen UC members die and get raped while fundraising for Sun Myung Moon.
I left them either in 1980 to 1982. I am not sure which. During this abusive time Scientologist used to call the police on me while I was on another street corner from them. They would cause all sorts of problems and they too are a cult.
Today, they share the same headquarters in NY. This headquarters used to be my home with the moonies. It is 4 W. 43 rd St, NYC, NY 10036. I still have that address memorized. The UC and the Scientologists share the building and recently a Moonie child fell to his death through the window AC.
A cult, yes they are a cult. They have grown huge so watch out for their various business ventures. Tom Cruise is an idiot.
Rev Sun Myung Moon is now a billionaire, ask their daughter Kat Moon who was on that TV show she was on and announced her wealth. His next goal is to build a "Freedom Bridge" across the Bering Strait from Alaska to Russia......what a lunatic. |

I totally agree with the other posts regarding Scientology.It is bad news & preys on vulnerable people. RUN & DON"T LOOK BACK!!!!!
If your meds aren't working for you, there are a few options: Yes you already know them. The incorrect meds OR the incorrect diagnosis. See your doctor & tell him/her that medx is not relieving your symptoms.Keep a journal (you can just use a calendar)and log how you felt each day (ie: anxious, down, confused etc.)and take this to your Doctor and ask for help . Perhaps your med is correct-only the dose is too high.
I have been playing the "trial & error med game" since Oct for BiPolarII. Some meds cause unacceptable side effects, or the dose needs to be adjusted. Unfortunately,SOMETIMES achieving the proper diagnosis & treatment can be a lengthy process.
