I have taken Alprazolam for 10 plus years. In the beginning I was prescribed .5 mil three times a day as needed for general anxiety. Three years ago I had a tragedy in my family and my dosage was increased to 1.0 mil three times a day. For six months now I have been suffering with skipped heart beats, confusion, memory problems, blurred vision, depression and increased anxiety. I have no motivation and no energy. Within the last two weeks I am having panic attacks and don't want to leave the house. I feel as though I'm losing my mind. I'm also paranoid which is something I never had a problem with before.
I was doing some research on the internet and read that long term use of Alprazolam can be very dangerous in that it may cause irrepairable damage to the brain and that it can cause amnesia and possibly even hallucinations. I am "very" frightened.
I've been attempting to wean myself off by cutting my dosage by .5 mil a day. The withdrawal is terrible and my symptoms are worse. I just want to get myself down to a lower dosage. My question is...will my body adjust to this lower dosage? Right now I feel that I have two choices....stay on the same dosage and risk permanent damage or wean myself completely off of the medication and not be able to function or leave my house. What do I do??? This is no quality of life.
Hey Man.. I am sorry to hear that.. though I am also taking 1mg of Xanax last 1 yaer. I also feel panic sometimes, and i guess it might be considered as a diziness as one of major side effect from Xanax.
I actually come hear to discuss with my sudden side effects of allergic pimples on my forehead after taking Xanax 1mg and Lexapro 20mg but cannot find any information from medical research.(Since every research shows those two medications are having ever safeness than others).
Well, if I cannot find any reasons, probably I am over sensitive myself, have to medicate oneself more :-( Anyhow I am planning reduce xanax to 0.5mg per day(after breakfast and dinner) and include propranolol 10mg(after lunch) and stilnox 10mg (before sleep). can we discuss about my prescription?
Have you been able to differentiate which prescription is causing the allergic breakout...the Xanax or Lexapro? I have been able to get my Xanax down to 1.5 mgs a day in conjunction with 30 mgs of Cymbalta. By reducing the Xanax some of my side effects have gone away...and the Cymbalta has helped with panic and anxiety.
My Cymbalta had to be reduced from 60 mgs to 30 mgs because of excessive sweating. The doctor said it was a rare side effect. I think it's possible you're having a rare side effect to Lexapro? There are many other alternatives to Lexapro, unless the benefits of it outway the side effects of breakouts. Cymbalta is the only antidepressant I've been able tolerate. All of the others caused migrains. Cymbalta is the 6th one I've tried. My therapist is suggesting Klonapin instead of Xanax because it's not as short lived, and she doesn't think I'll have the extreme ups and downs.
There are side effects to Propanolol. I'm not familiar with Stilnox. I was taking Lunesta, but am now off of that.
I just found out that Vitamin D-3 has been found to help emotional health and memory among other things, so I'm taking it along with large doses of Omega 3 Fish Oil which also helps emotional health. The new discovery of Vitamin D-3 is very interesting.
You could be breaking out from stress....but if it's a drug allergy I would think about trying something else. Your body is rejecting it.
Wow!!! I couldn't find any information about Cymbalta before that made me confusion in my next choice of medication.
My major illness is adjustment disorder, depression and tic disorder(involuntary head tremor). I was in really care about choosing medicine as my first visit psychiatry was tic disorder but actual problem was told depression.
Thanks for your information about Cymbalta as I am wondering to take minimal dose that I require. (Not much information about depression here in Korea)
I am not sure which one caused me allergic side effect but I have been also suffered from migrane and stiffness in my shoulder and etc.
Though Xanax is addictive, I think Xanax wouldn't be a problem if we control the amount and it won't be strong enough than any antidepressant medications to give serious side effect.
Hm. I better to consult to skip lexi to cymbalta and for xanax.
Yeah, Vitamine D-3 and Omega would be very good but learning way of meditation would be better in a long-term :-)
