In less than 48 hours from the beginning of training camp means another installment of EA Sports' annual football video game franchise, the Madden NFL, isn't far from its counterpart.
The football video game series releases each year in August however, in the weeks before its dropping the team at EA Sports has made a annual tradition of showing the ratings for the players playing in the game. Through this week, the ratings of various spots will be made available on ESPN as part of a partnership between the network as well as the video game company.
Yesterday, the overall rating of the top ten rookies were announced and the Detroit Lions first-round pick, Penei Sewell, was among those coronated with their first-ever Madden rating.
Sewell's overall score of 75 makes him the top-rated rookie offensive lineman which comes as no surprise since Sewell, the sought-after Oregon player was also the very first out of the pool on draft night. With an 81-point rating when he launched at the time of the draft, Atlanta's tightend Kyle Pitts is leading the rookie class. Sewell was among two players chosen following Sewell: DeVonta Smith from Philadelphia and Patrick Surtain II from Denver.
Last year it was the Lions First-round draft selection Jeff Okudah scored a average of 76. But, following an injury-plagued year it will be interesting to see how the Lions' first-round pick is in Madden this year.
Stay tuned to Pride of Detroit for more ratings reveals and analysis as we draw closer and closer to the game's launch on August 17.
