I was really helped by a support group through DBSA, Depression Bipolar Support Alliance. Their groups are peer-led and awesome. It was there that I received understanding and advice from people who had walked in my shoes. They have over 1,000 support groups across the country. It helped so much that as I have moved to a new community I am starting up a group there so that the 150,000+ people (of which current statistics would indicate that 10%, or 15,000+, have a mood disorder) in the city can have access to the same kind of support I received.
That's a great idea, txgal! We have a BDSA group locally, but I'm not a group kind of person. I'm glad it's helped you so much.
