I've been on 120mg of Geodon daily for almost 4 years now and plan to come off this medication. I have suffered from depression and anxiety, but have no psychotic or schizophrenic symptoms. I talked with my Doctor and the response was, "Why I want to come of, and you may want to consider staying on Geodon for the rest of your life." I was disatisfied with this response. The longer I stay on Geodon the greater the chances are of develop some side effects like Tardive Dyskneia, etc. I would like to know what the withdrawal symptoms will be, what is best way to come off this med, and how long does it take for withdrawals to be gone? Frankly I'm scared off coming off after reading the little bit of information I have been able to gather. Some say it is like going through hell to come off, and some after coming off started experiencing permanent Tardive Dysknesia effects. I've come off Effexor and that was a terrible experience. I am now working off of Lexapro and this one is also very hard to tolerate withdrawal symptoms. It sounds like ?Geodon is worse than even these two drugs. Can anyone share with me your experience coming off Geodon and what I can do to cope and make withdrawals more tolerable? My E-mail is give4good@yahoo.com

I have been taking Geodon for about a month to help me sleep. Not only did it not help me sleep, but as the doses were raised, I began to experience strange symptoms such as extreme teeth grinding and lack of facial muscle control. After cutting the dosage in half, in an attempt to ween myself off it, I had a full-blown panic attack while stuck in traffic, which scared the hell out of me. Trembling all over, hyperventilating, etc. Lasted for an hour or so until I was able to take some Klonopin. Since then, I have reduced to the point where I have taken none for the past three days. Although the teeth grinding has gotten better, I am a bundle of nerves, nauseas all day, and still feel mini panic attacks coming on. It feels like I stuck my finger in a light socket... A wave of heat comes over me, I feel like I'm going to black out, then it passes and I'm left shaking and dizzy. This drug has been an absolute nightmare, and I wish I knew when the symptoms would end, because quite honestly, it's ruining my life at this point. Seems to be the consensus from what I'm reading. |

I have been off Goedon now for a couple of months, and want to warn anyone who is considering taking this drug. My doctor started my on it for non-responsive depression and bi-polar disorder, and I immediately lost 35 lbs. (nice!) and the side effects, for me, were minimal (runny nose). Then, after a couple of months, I noticed I started having tremendous anxiety, and my doc started me on Xanex 3mg XR (which I am now addicted to), and my anger was increasing. When I drank alcohol, I would go into these unbelievable rages, I destroyed my ex-fiances new Cadillac CTS with a golf club, repeatedly hit him with a baseball bat another time, was arrested for assult another time (I was in a black out), got in a physical fight with a stranger at a movie theater another occasion, yelled obscenities at my child on another drunk night, and even began cutting myself with razor blades! My fiance' got so tired of babysitting my ragefull behavior, that he finally gave up after 2 1/2 years and left me. I was devastated. I had tried to go off Geodon once while we were together, and had cold sweats in the night, nightmares, saw imaginary things, it was probably worse than coming off LSD! I have many times thought of taking legal action! I finally came off of this four months after my fiance left me...consequently, the 35 lbs. came right back. The research I have done, says the drug directly affect the Central Nervous System...just like cocaine! No wonder I lost weight so quickly! STAY AWAY FROM THIS DRUG IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!! I wish you God's eternal peace and happiness always! Lisa

Wow! Scary! I've never taken Geodon before, but I did wean myself off of Risperdal/Risperedone, and I had cold sweats when I tried to come off of it cold turkey. I would suggest to anyone that weaning oneself of meds is the best way to go just to be safe. The faster the halt, the harder the crash. Good luck to all struggling with these issues. |

Hi all. I have been taking geodon for about a year now and I actually love it. Taking this type of medication has truly changed my life. I only have slight bipolar II but tking this helps me be a better mother, wife, sister and employee. I used to have trouble sleeping from my anxiety. Now, I take my geodon around 6 or 7 pm and I'm in bed around 9. I wake up around 730. It's great for me. I have had to side effects whatsoever. I'm 25 years old, female, about 120 lbs. I have been pregnant twice in the year I have been on it and so I quick cold turkey twice. When I don't take it at my regular time I soon feel my muscles begin to get just a little bit shaky. About 2 hours later I'm wide awake and more shaky. By morning I have not gone to sleep and feel prety alert. I go through the day a little off, I can't work. But by the next night I can sleep for a good solid 6-8 hours. It's is not easy doing this because I have a kid but I think it's worth it to keep it from getting to my baby any longer than it needs to be. My psychiatrist said even if I'm trying to conceive that I should still be on it but my other family doctors don't agree. I would like to say that I went a long time undiagnosed and on the wrong medication but that I think for you skeptics, from my own personal experience finding the right medication has truly enabled me to see the beauty in life. |
