Hi all, I have been reading with great interest about how Venlafaxine causes excessive sweating. I was given this horrible drug to combat menopause symptoms after having my HRT removed. The I rony of it is that it actually increased the hot sweats! After taking 37mg for 18 months I decided that I couldn't stand it any more even though it kept me calm and my moods balanced. The sweating side effect is absolutely horrible and horrendous. I need to do very little before the sweating starts and it isn't only exercise, but room temperature changes too! I do contract work so I have to attend interviews quite frequently. This is nothing more than a disaster as I can't think straight due to the rivers of perpetration running down my face and back. How can anyone concentrate on an interview when you are acutely aware that the people across the table notice this as you try to discretely wipe it away. I have now been off of Ven for two weeks and 3 days after coming off the stuff very slowly. What I despateately need to know is......how long before the sweating goes away?
i dont know the answer to your question but most drugs have chat rooms and pharmacutical companies have info, you can google and even you tube may help or a ask a question community. im sure others will respond to soon try posting in socializing with everyone community ill link you to it in short order
Hi Jaipy, Welcome to My Therapy, which is more than just a name.
The side effect of the excessive sweating, I do not miss. At all! You are right, it is the worst. And, the heat and sweating made me extremely irritable on top of that. I have now been off Effexor (was on 300mg of XR for 7 years) since Feb 2009. Sorry, but I don't remember when my body stopped the sweating, but I do know that I started feeling better from the withdrawal after about 3 months.
Best Wishes, and remember, that yes, there is life after Effexor!
"What would Stiggy do?" He would just get off his butt and DO IT!
Thank you to you all for your replies and your warm welcomes. #128522;
I guess the positive side to all this is that I am now over two weeks into it and the aptly named 'brain zaps' are decreasing slowly. Sadly the sweating is as bad as it always was. I cannot begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to returning to normal as regards that! My doctor gave me a different form of HRT after the meno symptoms appeared immediately after stopping it and I also take Levothyroxine for my thyroid issues. These may affect the withdrawal symptoms too! What surprises me the most is how little my doctor knew about the Ven side effects. She had no clue! I went and saw her several times about it and she really was clueless! Surely it's their job to understand how the drugs they prescribe affect their patients...
