Hi, Has anyone tried switching from depakote to tomapax? I have been on Depakote for 7 yrs but it makes me very tired, irritable and unable to be productive (but at least it keeps me sane). I know it's the side effects of Depakote, because I don't have these off it. I'm kind of scared of trying something new, as I reacted poorly to Lamacitl, Effexor, Zoloft and Lithium. I've recently been diagnosed with partial complex seizures by the nuerologist, and she suggested this change due to the side effects of Depakote for me. Thank you so much and many wishes for the success on your healing journey.
welcome krystal, depacote did the same to me ,and i gained a hundred fifty pounds on it .i see you have tried topomax so did i no good results. lamictal so far has been pretty good. i take risperdone [risperdal] and am doing much, much better. good luck keep posting and answering posts and visiting bi-polar chat. thats where alot of people have been going . take care see you soon i' m moniteering bi-polor chat. it's 2:41 pm sept. 25,2006
Hi Stigmastomper, I am meeting with the Neurologist and Psychologist tomorrow to discuss possibly doing this switch, so I am trying to get info to prepare. The biggest feedback I get is the memory problems people experience, which makes me very tentative about even trying it since my memory has already severely deteriorated over the last several years. If I exercise (ave 2 hrs./ day) and feel hungry most of the time, I can keep the weight gain down to about 20 lbs. My psychiatrist recommended considering adding Risperdal, I was wondering if you could share about the Risperdal, and what happened when you took Topamax. Thanks!
I took depokote and topomax when they were first trying to level me and I have to say that neither did any good. Depokote made me gain weight/irritable/sick to my stomach and Topomax was like taking a baby aspirine. Six years into my treatment I am taking Lithium, Klonopan and Trazadone. I am still manic 90% of the time but the klonopan seems to help with the edge. I hate the trazodone. I have 2 kids and a husband who are totally dependent on me so I can't take things that totally knock me out. I literlly have not slept more than 4 hours in 30 years. Oh, the Depokote also ruined my sex drive. I don't know if this helps or not but Depokote is somethhing I will never put in my body again.
Thanks Pookie, I have second opinions lined up for the end of this month, so I am hanging tight with Depakote for now. The other thing we are looking at is changing to Tegratol. I appreciate your responses and think this illustrates how different bodies respond differently to different medications. The Lithium made me so lethargic, but so does the Depakote. I sleep 10-12 hours and still struggle with tiredness on it. Trazadone and Synthroid don't seem to give me any noticeable side effects. I'm still so scared to try new medications because of the reactions I've had, but living with no energy for myself or my family keeps me trying. Thanks for your posts.
I have started using tomapax and the dissertation help experience using it is much better than the desktop. I would recommend o other people as well who mostly use computers must use tomapaxas it is easily moveable.
