Hello All: The only time I can actually give my feelings "free rein" is when I've had a couple of glasses of wine. Ernest Hemingway was famous and wrote wonderful things "under the influence of alcohol". Could I be so lucky?

We all become less inhibited when we indulge in a glass or two.....for alcohol depresses the central nervous system more than any other over the counter medication.
So it is good for us in moderation...if that's where we can keep it.
And yes we often feel more productive in our words/ writing etc but sleep on it... before 'posting' for for what seemed brilliant when tipsy, often makes little sense sober.
Of course you have the exception to the rule such the literary genius of Hemingway and the like but they were permanently 'topped up' and therefore rarely got 'over' intoxicated or drunk if you like.
So please enjoy your glass or two Mortitia .....but be careful.
Best wishes from a recovering alcoholic.
Have a good day and if that's not possible have a good day tomorrow! David |

PS
Mortitia,
I used to think I sang like Frank Sinatra when drinking...
but played back I was more like a dog howling lol
I think 'brilliance' is inherent you've either got it or you haven't. So it is in spite of..... not as a result of booze.
Just a thought.
Cheers, with out a drink......
Have a good day and if that's not possible have a good day tomorrow! David |

Hi David: Congrats on being a recovering alcoholic!! I hope you have good people in your life who are proud of you. I'm still in the denial stage. Unfortunately, I have the tendency to compare myself to/identify with Hemingway instead of "that smelly bum under the bridge". I just can't imagine never having a nice glass of good wine again. But, they say it's all or nothing in A.A. . .
Anyway brilliance is inherent, you say. I guess brilliance also comes in may forms. One just has to have the time and the patience to look for it, and then recognize it when it suddenly appears. As the Desiderata by Max Ehrmann says,
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Thanks for the kind words. You take care too.

Hi Stig: I'm so sorry you had such a bad time with alcohol and its effects. Thank you for telling me about your experience. I always think "it can't be that bad", and then I hear stories like yours, and yes, dammit, it is that bad. I know there is an AA in my neighborhood. They meet every Thursday night at 20:00. Can I bring myself to go? I hope my family can forgive me! But if they don't, can I really blame them? In any case, hang in there Stig. I hope to talk to you soon in Chat.

Hi, everyone. I've been out of town and out of touch for a long time. I need to confess that after not drinking for months, I binged last weekend. I had been to a crazy family reunion (joyful, but hard for a "hermit" like me.) Because of the floods in the midwest, I spent the bulk of time waiting in airports and spent 29 hours in the St Paul/Minneapolis airport. I was alone and scared and my sleep cycle got totally messed up. When I was finally safely home, in the middle of another botched night, I just locked myself in my house and drank for 3+ days. My husband and I had different schedules and had had to travel separately. Compared to the flood victims, I got off easily, but I'm just not used to traveling alone and being stranded. So....I'm crawling out of a hole of disappointment at myself but am ready to take up the sack of rocks that recovering alcoholics must carry forever. At least now I know that I absolutely cannot ever drink again. I'm a retired, mature person, yet I screwed up big time despite a lifetime of knowing it to be wrong for me. (Plus I didn't take my meds for the 3+ days.) Take it from me, kids, older people make huge mistakes, too. |

Hi Juniperbelle
Older people do make huge mistakes ....we all do....but you have shown when you fall off the wagon you don't give up, you dust yourself off and put yourself right back on course.
Well done.....

There is a test carried out to find out whether your drinking pattern is safe or not, i.e Answering these 20 questions will give you an idea if your drinking patterns are safe, risky or harmful. The test is completely confidential and anonymous; your results are not recorded; and are available only to you. You will not be asked for any personal identifying information. This quiz was developed by the Office of Health Care Programs, Johns Hopkins University Hospital.I think someone the one who drinks should go for this test/

Moderation in all things....
REHAB IS A FRAUD
#9733; Las Vegas Recovery Center is nothing but an elaborate scam. Why? Most rehab centers, if not all, are as well. They constitute a placebo at best, and at worst can be harmful in the extreme.
#9733; Learn from 13 former patients about the worthless and hollow program that they endured costing a thousand dollars per day for 90 days of pure hell and quck medicine. We were tortured mentally and physically for no reason whatsoever, and were also forced into the harmful cult of Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous.
#9733; Violations of 1st Amendment and HIPPA laws were rampant. The staff, including the quack doctors, was abusive, incoherent, and undereducated.
#9733; Vital information for chronic pain sufferers on Opioid-Induced Hyperalgesia is provided.
Go to 13Apostates.com for further information. Read “Our Story” for all the nitty gritty details on how the complex scam is perpetrated. Be safe. Be aware. Be vigilant. Recovery is not counter-intuitive.
