Welcome to our community Sonia,From your history, I would suggest that you ask your physician whether you have Panic Disorder. You can read more about Panic Disorder at http://www.mentalhealth.flucom/dis/p20-an01.html.Usually Panic Disorder quickly responds to treatment with an anti-anxiety medication, clonazepam. Clonazepam is usually started at 0.5 mg at bedtime for 3 days, then 1 mg at bedtime for 3 days, then 1.5 mg at bedtime thereafter. The clonazepam usually dramatically decreases the panic attacks in the first week of treatment. However, long-term use of clonazepam often causes over-sedation and memory loss. Hence many physicians also start individuals with Panic Disorder on fluoxetine (Prozac). Usually the fluoxetine is started at 10 mg at breakfast for 4 days, before being increased to 20 mg at breakfast thereafter. Any "SSRI" antidepressant medication will work equally well. Once the fluoxetine starts working (in 4-6 weeks); the clonazepam can be slowly phased out. There is one very important point. If you have been on clonazepam for a few weeks; you can't suddenly stop the clonazepam. You have to slowly phase it out over a few weeks (otherwise you could have severe "rebound anxiety" or even a seizure if you stopped clonazepam "cold turkey"). The majority of individuals with Panic Disorder recover with this treatment. Once you start feeling better, you should read more about the cognitive therapy of Panic Disorder. Cognitive therapy helps you to gradually expose yourself to the situations that, in the past, have been associated with your panic attacks. Research has shown that cognitive therapy plus SSRI antidepressant medication is more effective than either therapy alone. Good luck Sonia. Phil Long M.D. Administrator |

Dear Sonia,
I did a very stupid thing when I was 21: tried to take my own life. That was very silly and I regret enourmously what I did. Actually that attempt got my anxiety worse.
Despite life can be difficult sometimes now, after 17 years, I enjoy my life with a lovely wife and a great son.
I wish you all the best and I'm sure one day you will be a happy and full of life young woman.
Best regards, Catalin |

Hi Sonia,
Your symptoms are definitely, definitely ANXIETY!!!
I had ALL of your symptoms!!
I have suffered from Generalised Anxiety Disorder for about ten years. It was triggered by the loss of a five year relationship. I had a habit of keeping my emotions to myself, started drinking heavily, lost all my friends, thought that I was somehow different and had a sense of unreality in my life. Nothing ever seemed to make me happy, and I could not even accept genuine compliments etc.
In summary, I was depresed, probably due to lack of love from my parents as a child. I developed an addiction to Alcohol, and smoked thirty a day for 18 years. I now though have quit smoking, drinking and have even cured my anxiety from using The Linden Method. I gave up drinking first, and visited AA, which has given me a sense of spirituality back in my life (I am am athiest though, so to me this is happiness, because I have learnt to love myself, before I can love others.) I then started The Linden Method, which basically teaches how to relax properly, but also eliminate the negative thinking process that exascerbates the anxiety feelings. It goes through a series pillars (rules) to stop anxiety. Either way one describes it, it is a CURE, unlike all the other self help books / C.D's out there. Defintely worth the online £58-00, as I have been panic attack free for two years now. Finally, I gave up smoking recently, and my pains in the left arm have stopped.
In short you are exaggerating your condition / s, even though not pleasant, can and should be overcome to get your life back on track. I do empathise with you totally, but remember, you are definitely not alone, many millios suffer in silence like this, and like me think that it is something very serious liek Heart Disease, simply and bluntly IT IS NOT!!!!!
Wishing you all the best
Love Craig |

Hi Craig, I see that you used the Linden Method?? I have been suffering from Anxiety/Agrophobia for over a year now. I am unable to work and of course continue my daily routine. My Doc has prescribed me every anti-depressant out there, but all of them just rebounded on me. The side effects were just to severe for me to handle. The only med I am presently taking is Rivotril, I take 0.5 mg twice a day, although its not a big dose, I still feel my body being addictive to it. I would love to stop it, but I am scared with all these bad withdrawls that I hear. And for some reason I beleive I need this med, to get me going!! When I searched the internet I read about the Linden Method, but I never came across anyone who actually had tried it. Were you ever on any meds? Do you really beleive that the Lindon method will really help me? Please e-mail me if you can! I desperatly would like to become the person I was before.. Anxious |
