I haven't been able to sleep lately because of nightmares. Weird stuff. last night I dreamed I was being chased by mobsters who were trying to kill me. The nightmares are horrible.
Has anyone done therapy for nightmares or taken any meds that decrease nightmares?
My girlfriend takes zolpidem. It seems to work for her. Isn't it strange that there is a medication designed to help you have good dreams? How do they do that?

I hope you get sorted on that score Tara
You have my commiserations for I identify with you. Something like a year ago I had the police at the door at about four am. My neighbors had alerted them for they could here me yelling out for help... knowing that I live on my own and have a heart problem they felt they must seek outside help... which included a paramedic unit.
Had I not awoke when I did they had a battering ram to bring down the door. The only thing I can think of was I had stopped abruptly the antidepressant I am prescribed.
Thankfully I have not had another nightmarish episode, well no way near as bad and I have given my neighbors a key should something similar reoccur.
Cheers for sharing what you have with us, David

I used to have horrific nightmares!! My Doc prescribed clonidine 0.1mg It is commonly taken for hypertension. The low dose is just enough to stave off the nightmares.
My therapist also has me journal any bad dreams I have. This seems to work for me.
I've been having nightmares every night. I've been depressed for about a month now. One I had recently was that I let someone cut off a BIG part of my legs and I smiled as I bled to death. Still freaks me out.
