I've had 3 occurances of something in the past 9 months.
Symptoms are as follows(and in order): 1) My entire body goes numb for no apparent reason(5-10sec) 2) I become terrified that i'm going to die. 3) Excessive sweating and shaking(presumably out of fear). 4) I feel like i can't get enough oxygen, although i know i'm breathing fine. 5) I feel like i'm outside my body. 6) Legs muscles feel weak and sore.
First diagnosis was hyperventilation syndrome, second time, a blood test revealed high cortisol, a trip to the endocrinologist ruled out any problems with the adrenal gland, last occurance(and the most severe, co-workers ended up calling 911) was diagnosed as a Panic Attack.
While i am experiencing a significant amount of stress currently, i don't feel like the attacks occur at times of stress. The things i read on Panic Attacks indicate that you become overwhelmed with fear, but in my case it's the body going numb sensation that seems to trigger the fear. Maybe it's the adrenaline rush that causes the numbing sensation?
I would appreciate feedback on experience with Panic Attacks so i can try to figure out what the hell is going on.
The first full blown attack I thought I was also going to die I was on a city bus and made the driver stop so I get off and breath did not seem to get any air on the bus. All of your symptoms I can say I had them also I have gone thought therapy which help to copy with the triggers I also take meditation for the anxiety and try to stay away from the stressors which helps. I hope that you will find ways to help you to reduce the attacks. Also let me welcome you to MT their many here who know that you are going througt, and will listen to what you say and hopefully be able to help.
i have the exact same effects for 15 years. nd all the counseling medication and books just masked the fear. i was on the verge of suicide until a friend recommended panic away. i thought it was just going to be a waste of time and money but it really has changed my life for ever. Heres the link for it if your interested. http://5babadvl20x6ez1dcij9glilfs.hop.clickbank.net/ Now im not sayin it will help you like it helped me but its worth a try. Good luck and i hope you get better soon.
I suffer from severe panic attacks and have experienced everything that you have. I couldn't take them anymore! I did try to commit suicide and ended up in the hospital for about 10 days. I went to a pyschotherapist and it helped me for a bit and then the panic attacks came back with a vengence! My pdoc suggested I try Cipralex and my panic attacks have all but vanished. The only anxiety I have now is when I go to a restaurant and have to sit in the same chair for a couple of hours. I feel absolutely trapped and I usually end up taking a couple of Clonazepam just to get me through dinner. That's it for the anxiety though. Cipralex has really changed my whole thinking process. I don't get depressed much and my crying jags are almost extinct. Thank God!
I just want to be happy and healthy. Nothing more, nothing less!
