Hi everyone. I am 2 weeks diagnosed as Hypomanic Bipolar 2. I work in a field that stress and sometimes anger managment can tbe hard to control. Im a step mother of 2 . I work 60 hours a week, on a general basis and this all came as a suprise diagnosis to me. I went to the first appointment with my doctor , expecting maybe just some medication..not what happened. After about 3 weeks I was officially diagnosed after severl hours of miserable testing. To my point, I am very lost! I have bought a couple of books, but i want to know about personal experiences. Today is my first appointment to start changing me from my depression medicing, that was apparently not what i Needed, hence why it wasnt working. I am looking for any suggestions, or guidence one books, movies, stories, anything anyone is willing to share with me. Thank you for anything you can help me with.
Have no fear, BP 2, is a much less severe form of Bi Polar. We have another member who is BP 2 and this person functions very well. May I suggest, you post in the Social section and or the BP Community section? These areas are read daily. I will try to post a link to both. PS I am sigh, Bi Polar one, according to my P-Doc. Dx'd in 2008 after many years of being treated for Depression.
PS- Laura,,I know the diagnoses may feel awful at first, but believe it not, things get better. Not sure what your symptoms were, dear Laura, but I do hope that the medication prescribed will give relief, Sometimes it may take a few trials on different meds, Most of all, there are alot of highly educated members here, who can help. and those of us from the school of hard knocks. Welcome aboard, you are no longer alone.
To this caring community here. You found a very beautiful place to address your concerns and put forth your views for discussion. I am here for over a year.
I too didn't knew what I suffered from. I was speculated of suffering from Depression/Atypical depression/Dysthemia by many psychiatrists here in India and was put on various medication for years but with NO substantial benefit. I researched myself and was shocked but happy to find myself suffering from Avoidant personality disorder. I later consulted many Psychologists here but all proved useless. Just last year I found this site ant it helped me express and open up. Meanwhile I got chance to see a Psychologist in UK. I found her extremely beneficial.
And I would like to say two things about it Laura, Firstly I don't believe in medicines as big and only way to fight out stress emerging from any illness especially falling under the purview of Mental illness. and my experience showed that cure s very much possible.
Secondly, had I not interacted here it would have been a lot more difficult to get in the much better mental state that i enjoy now. I got huge support here.
Wish you all the best Laura, and hope we see you here often.
