exercise, fresh air, progressive realxation exercises. good food. these things help us sleep.
A cool room, dim light, warm covers, these too help us rest.

its really hard to calm yourself down sometimes though, i dont know how to , when i have racing thoghts, and can concentrate, and can't be still. its so hard to try to calm down and breathe |

I sleep really well, except when I have to. Then it is often hard to get to sleep. So, I lay there and meditate, and deep breathe, and pretend it is not a big deal that I am not sleeping. LOL
It is what it is...but I'm trying to make it better! |

My doctor has me on 3 Trazadones and I still do not sleep unless I have stayed up late and gotten up early for 2 nights. I have found that the Lamictal has helped with the racing thoughts. I feel for those of you who are still going through this. I thought the racing thoughts would never end. |

Today, I got up early, around 0730 (early for an off day) and have not had a nap. And will not!!! Am going to go to bed like a normal person tonight, hopefully by midnight. I work tomorrow, and if I can sleep well, it should help.
Actually, I hope to start going to be like a normal person, instead of just falling asleep on the couch, or staying up until 0200 or later. Trying to see if structure will help.

I just found this post. Very good topic. Even when I'm tired I'm often too tired to sleep. I take melatonin and/or valerian root which helps shut my brain down. Unfortunately I continue to think with my brain 'on' all night by way of dreams or nightmares. I have heard that sex is supposed to help but with my husband gone for so long I wouldn't know .

I have had chronic insomnia as long as I can remember. Over the counter medications make me hallucinate and be hyperactive, and so far all prescription meds have failed to work. I'm often up from anywhere from 2-4 days at a time and if I do sleep its usually during the day instead of at night. This is very frustrating because being so tiard seems to make my mood fluctuations much worse and I have less control over my temper and the way I react to everyday events.

As soon as I lay my head on the pillow the racing thoughts begin. I workout in the gym hoping to quell my wired self after work. I'm still hoping when I hit the pillow I will easily fall asleep. At times it does work but I find myself awakened at 2am. That's when I have to take the clonazepam. I'm treated by Chinese acupuncturist every week for sleep. |

I went through it all when it comes to bipolar disorder, insomnia, psychosis, delusion, anxiety, paranoia. I refused to take medicine because I wanted a better answer than to be medicated my whole life. I went to a place called deliverance ministries out of Oklahoma City and I am 100% back to my old self and had not had one ounce of mental trouble. The service is free. I like to refer to it as a soul detox. I now help out on Monday nights . Go one time and it will change your life. Or do the online ministry. Delmin.org |

this is so true. When i can't sleep, all i have to do is just to walk outside and breath some fresh air. After that, a glass of milk with a book in my hand will surely knock me down. |
