Hello Everyone, I've been taking Phenelzine (Nardil) for six years now,I've had depresssion since 1987.From 1987 to 2002 I had taken just about all the ssri's,Lithium,Ridlin and tricyclets(please excuse my spelling)and my Doc wanted me to have "Shock Treatments",which after I researched it I decided it was to risky and it didn't present any real benefit or value to other's experience with it. But when I was started on Nardil and worked up to the maxium dose of 90mg's a day,I had relief that I had never had in the previous 13 years (87-02). I've not had a single "low" period in these last 6 years--I'm so thankful for this medication that my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has provided!! Ever since I've taken this med,I haven't sleep well,I can fall asleep easily, but wake up after 4 or 5 hours after retiring.A couple times per month I may get 6 hours. I do not nap during the day either. During the day I have plenty of energy to work or do whatever. If for example I get sleepy at 9PM I still wake up in 4 or 5 hours.
I am interested if anyone else who has taken Nardil has any answers as what might help with sleep problem. Let me mention; I've tried ambien,it didn't help whatsoever. Maybe something over the counter that someone has used? I will run this info by my doctor first before taking anything!! Thanks in Advance for any assistance in this matter!!

hi there willy! how r u doing?
welcome to mytherapy!
i also have insomnia but luckily only every now and again.. mostly my sleep isnt disrupted too much..(when my nearly three year old daughter starts disrupting the pattern, then it kind of sticks!)
usually i just lay there and hope to fall asleep soon.. can i ask,, you r age..? because as we age, we need less sleep,,my mom in law for example, also only sleeps about four hours a night. do u smoke? because when we smoke, we can wake up in the middle of the night in need of nicotine..same with coffee.
they say ppl have 4 main drives; food, water, sex and sleep. ppl who smoke obviously have that one extra. when your drives are all satiated you might enjoy a better night's rest too..and make sure that there isnt anything that your body feels it needs to wake you(like a full bladder). but im sure you've already tried all of these, lol!
as for over the counter herbal sleep remedies,, i havent tried any, and im seriously scared of getting addicted to sleeping pills that needs dr prescriptions.. but i do know that maybe you should try some, just to get you into a comfortable sleeping pattern.
i hope this has been of some help!
oh and feel free to join us in bipolar general or social forum, as there is much more daily traffic there..
