[Please note: This member's posts fail to mention that all the serious toxic effects due to carbamazepine are rare. For example, in my 34 years of practicing psychiatry, I have yet to see one patient on carbamazepine have a serious toxicity requiring the termination of its therapy. However, I do terminate carbamazepine as a precautionary measure whenever a patient develops a serious rash on starting it. Administrator ]

Tegretol XR is the magic ingredient in my current drug *****tail. I've had pretty good results over the 3+ years that I've been taking it. It eliminates the manic extreme of my mood continuum but leaves me the hypomanic mood that I crave, especially after a long depression. If I take it without an antidepressant to balance its effect, Tegretol will send me straight into deep depression; so I always take both. Currently, my *****tail is 1,000 mg Tegretol XR, 20 mg Lexapro, 300-400 mg Trazadone (to sleep), and occasionally 2 mg lorazepam for anxiety or sleeplessness. I also medicate with marijuana as prescribed by my psychiatrist and neurologist. I have found a bit of stability with this combination, although it's far more drugs than I'd like to be taking! I hope this helps someone.

I won't touch pot, It would be too easy for me to slide back into my drug using habits. From long ago. I have a friend that uses 'medicinal' pot for anxiety, and pain. Lately they are making cookies and candy from it. What ever works, not for me though.
Man on his own is a weak creature, but, joined with others, working for the same goals, can work miracles. |

I'm with you Lynn...I seem to have the opposite reaction to pot from everyone else. I actually think it makes me psychotic. I get so freaked out, paranoid and have halucinated numerous times after smoking pot.
In grade 11 I hallucinated so badly after smoking pot at lunchtime that I thought the walls and ceiling of the school were closing in on me and I was so scared I ran, fell and broke my leg.
Since then I have only occasionally tried pot again, but it never feels good, always feels bad. One time a medical proffesional suggested I try it for anxiety. I tried, but had the same bad experience. It's just not for me, but I believe it works for some people.
I also believe it should be legalized, because I am sure it causes less damage to society than alcohol and alcohol is legal. Plus, almost everyone I know smokes it on a regular basis and they all have good jobs, and homes and kids. I seem to be the only one who has the reaction I have....aqua |
