Hey.
So I met this amazing women about 2 weeks ago, and we see each other just about everyday. I'll call her Mara, Mara is Bipolar 1 is getting past some extremly difficult times. She's on medication, and we talked extensively about being Bipolar, how she feels, and what to do if things go south. I want to be there for her and support her, it's crazy but in such a short amount of time I'm falling in love with her, and she says the same thing to me. We talked the other night, about alcohol and how she needs to no longer be drinking which she agreed with. She also drinks a lot of those energy drinks like Rockstar. I think this is probably bad for her, but can't seem to find any information on this. For the most part things between us are great, we have open communication and I want to do everything I can to support her. But, since I'm still learning about her illness I found this forum and figured it was a good place to find some advice. Instead of the same canned clinical responses I see on most websites.
Maybe the bigger question is what should I NOT do, and what should I be looking for as far as signs of her going into depression or mania.
Today was the first day were she felt off, she couldn't sleep last night, and today she was distant, sitting away from me not really wanting to be touched, but she didn't want me to leave she just wanted me to be there. I just felt this really weird vibe, that I can't explain and her demeanor is different then normal.
Any advice or help would be great. Thank you very much!

Just be there for her, and tell her your there for her. Be supportive and be know about the illness, that's the worst things that my husband does, he does not know anything about my illness and does nothing to learn about about it. You're doing the right thing! |
