I’d thought I’d post something in the Obsessions and Compulsions section
Does anyone know how to cure someone of a Politics/power obsession i.e. me
Is there CBT for it? |

Hi Jonathon
I don't know if I am going off track but I was obsessed with having my say politically at every opportunity...writing and being published in the papers, emails...etc.etc.I was going overboard and felt like I was on a mission(now I know it is part of schizophrenia)
What stopped me in my tracks was an email....a very nasty threatening email that I should have taken to the police but instead I became completely paranoid and delusional and was hospitalized for 5 weeks... Now I don't say boo...lol...because I don't care anymore except about trying to keep well.
Sue

Gee Sue, I did the same thing in 1999. I was published in the Star, and that REALLY got me going, on telling the world, how they should behave . It was fun. Thankfully, I didn't get an e=mail. That must have been extremely upsetting. Don't worry though our health comes first abve all else. It sure is GOOD to hear from you ! Hi Jonathan, I guess it is sort of like getting over a love lost, we can write letters, but not send them. Letters can sometimes come back to bite us in the behind.

I just watched Britain win some rowing semi-final on TV
I've also just expressed interest for a philosophy course by email to Glasgow university. |

Hi Jonathan,
I have been politically motivated from my teenage years. I sit up all night when we have an election.
I listen to most of the political shenanigans on BBC Radio four ( whilst I am participating here within the forums ), and read it in the newspapers and e-mail whenever it catches my eye.
Talking of which herewith is a good non biased link to be going on with.

I'm not going to discourage you if its in your blood it's in you blood .... don't fight it. I don't see it as OCD, I prefer to think of it as being compassionate about the world around you!
Yours in admiration, David
If you were confessing about abusing alcohol, illicit drugs or heavy gambling, I would try my utmost to discourage you from such harmful indulgence. But not you taking a political interest in this world of ours. We need more like you. Then maybe there'd be less apathy and more radicalism.
In saying what I have, I draw the line about bringing it in to "My Therapy" , unless it is some newsworthy point appropriate to mental health issues per se.
If you work these communities ... there's a good chance these communities will work for you! |
