Ecstasy use linked to depression
September 8th, 2005 @ 2:40pm
DUBLIN, Ireland, Sep 08, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- An Irish researcher has warned regular users of the club-drug ecstasy run the risk of depression and anxiety, as well suppressed immune systems.
Speaking at the British Association Festival of Science in Dublin, Dr. Thomas Connor of Trinity College Dublin said ecstasy damages the nerve cells in the brain that produce the mood-enhancing neurotransmitter serotonin, an effect that can last for years and can lead to anxiety and depression.
"It does recover slowly but not in the way it should. There's still damage in the long term," Connor said.
As well, he said the drug has important immuno-suppressive properties that can dampen down the normal functioning of the immune system which has the potential to increase an individual's susceptibility to disease, The Independent reported.
"The drug has traditionally been associated with the rave dance club scene, a crowded environment where teenagers congregate -- optimal for transmitting airborne infection between individuals," he said.

Thanks for this Sheepskin.
I am really interested in this sort of thing as it is very relevant to me. I used to abuse drugs in the past, ecstacy being one of the main ones I took.
I have always feared that it could have caused long term damage, and be one of the causes of my depression and anxiety. We even knew this was a possibility at the time we were taking it, but it wasn't enough of a threat at the time to scare us away and stop us from using it. You think you are immune when you are young; and that you will live forever.
I guess the mid-week lows, or "come-downs", after a weekend on pills were a sure sign of things to come. They'd happen because all your serotonin - like a week's supply or something - had been depleted by the ecstacy. So, you felt like the lowest of the low for sveral days whilst the levels re-balanced and your brain had the chance to deliver more serotonin.
I just wish there was more info on this. There have always been news reports, like this one, but I find them inconclusive and they never tell me anything that I don't already know. Scientific studies seem few and far between, or else the medics are keeping them well hidden from public yes.
I went to the link you gave but it just relays the same story again. Don't suppose you yourself have any further info on this??
I shall have to try another internet search, I have not tried for a while.
Thanks again,
Heather |

I have just purchased a pack of Trip2Night from Narcomundo.com. I paid around 30 dollars and the shipping was free. I emailed them to see how long it will take to get to me, but they have not emailed me back yet. The first week end night I get it I will try it and let you know if I like it or not. I will concentrate more on the things I do not like since the web sites selling it are promoting it enough and that is not my job. My job is to let the world know if there are any areas I do not like. I will get back to this after I try it. http://www.narcomundo.com/legal-drugs/herbal-ecstasy/trip2night

was taking ecstasy and other drugs for many years when I was younger, thinking I was also invinsible. Then to realise I wasnt after falling into a major depression.really feel as if i ****ed up my brain, nothing feeling the same or near the way it was.Iam not a doctor, but without doubt ecstasy plays a massive part in depression and well being. Also finding it harder to deal with, due to the feeling of the fact that uve brought it on urself.I dont feel as if there is anything else to no about ecstasy, feel as if i analyzed it enough with my depreesion and comedowns.Am now on prozac, which works for me and take my good days and bad days as they come,I now have a family to support and a family which also supports me. x
