Dear Members,

It would be very helpful if you could tell our community how you deal with the onset of depression. The following is a questionnaire that assesses how people (with Major Depressive Disorder and/or Dysthymic Disorder) cope with depression.

Here's the first question:

    When my mood starts to become too down, depressed, or hopeless:
    • I ensure that I stay on the prescribed dose of my medication for depression.
Once you answer, you will be shown how our other members have answered.

    • I don't go to parties, rock concerts or any other very stimulating or emotional events (because I don't want to get over-stimulated).

    • I purposely don't make any major decisions - e.g., buy a new car, buy a house, quit my job (because I don't trust my decision-making ability when I'm depressed).

    • I try to cheer myself up by using "positive thinking" (e.g., counting my blessings, positive affirmations, using cognitive therapy techniques to correct my negative thinking).
