Why A New Depression Web Community?
MyTherapy (Internet Mental Health) is building this new web community. Originally, this Depression Web Community was hosted by MSN. We moved to this new website to be able to use new technology not available at MSN. For example, our new community message board is far superior to our old message board at MSN. Now we can create whatever our members want in a web community.
What Should We Add Next?
We have added a chat room. Now we need to know what you think we should add next to our community.
We greatly appreciate your suggestions.

Hi guys
My name is Andrew, I have been a member of the web community at MSN, and have found it very useful, despite the fact that I have been a member for less than a week. I want to thank you for everything that you do, it is very helpful for everyone. I like the change, but I find the layout very hard to explore, and find it hard to find what I'm looking for, I found the MSN community much easier to explore. I'm not sure how you can change this; or if any one else feels this way, or if im just being stupid tonight. But anyways thank you very much for your time and effort you put into the community, its an amazing thing that you do for all of us

Andrew You Are Right,
Our original format was too difficult to navigate. Thus we have split this website into 3 parts: general, medications, and nonpharmaceutical therapies.
I hope this makes topics easier to find.
Thanks for your constructive criticism - it helped!

I felt overwhelmed when I first came to this page, because the layout is definitely not as clear and user-friendly as the old one. I think it's better to have general topics because when most first-time users come to the site after looking it up on google or some search engine, I would usually look through the discussion first. There's too many specific discussions to choose from.
Also, I don't like that you have to keep signing in with your username and password, I wrote a whole big long message and it didn't go through because the password was wrong and then I lost the whole message!

First, I have to agree with Smiley and Andrew. I find the old site much more user-friendly. For some reason I find this site to be COLD. Maybe I just have to get use to it. I have also found that after I log-in at the home page. I get the message that my login was successful. However, when I post a message, my username and password are blank. If I don't fill it in, my message is lost. Therefore, as Smiley said, I have to be continuously loging in which is annoying.
Another thing I miss from the old site which I hope you'll be able to do here, is having the message come directly to my e-mail. That way I don't miss anyone's post. Right now I look at the numbers and the dates and can see what is new. However, when this site really takes off and we have a lot of participation as we did in the old site. It will be difficult to find all the new messages. People need to know that their message will be read and responded to within a resonable length of time. It is a terrible feeling when your message is not acknowledged. However, I do like the fact that this site shows you how many people read your post even if they didn't leave a reply.
I'd also love to see more smileys. I love to use smileys in my posts.

Hi Everyone.....well this is a bit more difficult to figure out than the old forum...and like many have said will just take some time and some looking around first....I think it will be lots of fun once the bugs are out and every one has a chance to experiment.

There should be a link from the DISCUSSION HOME TO THE BLOGS at MyTherapy. Just as there is one from MyTherapy to the Communities.

Dear Dr. Long,
I was a member at your old communities for a number of years. I have met some really wonderful people there, who have helped me stay off the brink. I decided to try out the chat today, because each time I check it out, there is no one chatting. I signed into the chat room, but the page that shows how many people are chatting, remained at zero. I exited the chat room, and then went back in... and then it showed that there was 1 person chatting. I'm not much of a "poster", I have a really hard time with that, but I do enjoy one on one conversations, or in other words live feedback and giving. Having said that, if each time someone goes to see if anyone is chatting and it reads zero, I think that might be a problem. I just thought I would bring it to your attention, and I hope you know, this is by no way a criticsm of your new site. Take care, and I hope you know that your efforts have not gone un-noticed.
Beth

There's a problem. When you first enter the community, you can see ALL the topics for discussion. However, when you pick a subheading, under a catagory, i.e., DEPRRESSION: GENERAL TOPICS, and you wish to go back to the forum, all you see are the topics under that subheading. The rest of the subheadings with their topics are omitted. You have to go back to ALL FORUMS, then log back in, to view all the TOPICS again. I noticed a post from a new member who is unaware that there are other topics other than NEW MEMBER.
This needs to be corrected. All the topics and subheading should come up once a person has viewed a topic.

I would like it if your own posts were rated where we could see if we were helping someone out or not. I would feel better to know if I actually helped someone with my posts. As always you should not be able to vote on your own post, that should remain the same. Just a thought.
Take care, Ali |

Hi Ali, I think the dilemma here might be if people started rating our posts as unhelpful, or harmful...How would the admin. people manage those? And if you weren'e getting feedback that your posts were helpful, you may begin to assume they were rated as are unhelpful (especially those of us who become paranoid when depressed). I know for me I would be devastated if I did not think I was helping others in my posts. ...Aqua |

Dr. Long,
I was a member of the Discussion forum for a long time, starting in 2002. It was so helpful for me to read and exchange information on the Internet with people having the same problems. But one day it was impossible for me to find the old Internet friends... I'm not a friend of MSN, but your new form of the discussion forum is quite difficult. Now your system specialists have reached a better organization of the web site, but many people will be not able to find the proper information they could need. Many of the participants could be not able to find the right place in the forum they will need due to the very professional site arrangements. Maybe your system providers should add some additional shortcuts of the end of each window...
Take my best wishes.

Desperado,
I hadn't thought of that, but that's a good idea!
I second the motion.

I am not familiar with the other layout, but I don't find this website hard to explore. However, going back to the chat room thing, maybe there is a way to see who is logged on and available to chat? |

Hey All
Heads Up....There is a spammer in Depression/General Discussion...What can you do to make sure we don't get inundated with this type of thing?
It feels very violating to come here...expose my soul...and then have some yeh hoo trying to use and exploit people with serious, and often life threatening conditions......like me.
