My friend has been trying one med after another, looking for the right one. He suffers from mild depression and is able to function without meds, but with little joy in life. Many of these meds have given him weird and non-wonderful symptoms like feeling like a zombie, feeling disconnected from himself etc., this is in addition to things like stomach upsets. What we wanted to know is this. If a medication is having a negative effect on your PSYCHOLOGICAL state, can it then turn around and be good for you?
Right now he's trying edronax. It's supposed to take effect after two weeks. He's taken it for 15 days and so far he's not feeling well. His doctor told him that he has to be patient and that he should keep taking it for a week or two. Is there really any reason to keep on taking edronax? Can it help his mood after making it worse for 2 weeks?
I'm afraid he might be bailing on the trial before giving it a real chance. He's understandably depressed about the fact that his anti-depressant is making him feel worse.
I'd like to hear other people's experiences. Can a bad trial turn good?
Hi, I sympathise with your friends feelings of feeling numb and the drug taking too long to work as I went thru the same thing and even had ECT treatments but what has worked for me now is being on two antidepressents but they have to be the right ones for you and that takes time to figure out. I went from brand names to generic and no longer feel that numbness I had for 3 year (zombie). different drugs have different components so do some research and talk to your pharmacist about a comparable drug which might work better for you. That was the smartist thing I did because they are the scientist and can read those components which make up your drug. Good luck and hang in there and don't be afraid of telling your dr what works and what doesn't. It should't take more than 2 weeks
Hi luvletters, welcome to My Therapy! We're so glad you're here! There are several members here who have taken or are taking some of the same meds as you. If I may suggest, many members will see your posts quicker if you would like to start a new topic, a good place would be the New Members forum. Here is the link:
