Hi everyone. Brand new here.
I have cycles of anger on average every 3-8 weeks. I really can't see it coming, and it never is the same thing that triggers it ( maybe it is but I cannot tell ). For instance my wife and I just simply disagree on something we are working together on, and...at first I get quiet and withdraw some..then I start stating what is bugging me, and most times it is something that is legitimate ( but any other time it would not phase me ).
I can get really ugly ( I don't hit, curse, etc. ) just nasty logic etc. and after I have my tirade, I slowly but surely start feeling better.
After it seems like I had this intense build up of steam in a pot, and now that it is out, I feel better, but stay a little depressed for a couple days until completely normal again.
Also after, I realize that I was not 'really' angry at my wife, it just was time for whatever it was to release. It seems so silly afterwards. I feel awful. My wife understands seeing the cycle so much, but it is still very stressful for her.
I have been on Prozac for depression for years. Dr.'s had trouble treating me. Called it Atypical or Agitated Depression. And the prozac helped a lot with the depression, but did nothing for the angry part of the cycle.
One month ago saw a psychiatrist, explained this to him and he said a 'classic' case of Bipolar. He said my manic cycle is agitated/irritable/angry as opposed to being euphoric.
A different type of bipolar, but yet still bipolar. He added this is missed very often by dr.s before it is correctly diagnosed. So, now have Lamictal 75mg. plus 25 mg. seroquel added to my prozac, and have noticed feeling better, but just had another cycle of anger 2 days ago.
I read where lamictal can help with this, so slowly going to go up to the 200mg dose, which is an average effective dose for most people. Geez, I hope it works.
My cycle seems a lot like I read by poster "aquamarine" but now I cannot find that one. Would like to read that one again.
Also anyone have a cycle very similar to this one ? Thanks |

your not alone my friend, lithium, paxal, and abilify helped a bit for me, but it's still a battle to notice the coming cycle. Look for the signs building up to the anger( your wife can probably tell better than you) and then find some sort of calming exercise or hobby to let off the pressure, it's tough though I've been trying for 4 years and still miss the signs all the time...Good luck |
