I would not recommend risperidone for depression. In my experience it seemed to demotivate me, and thus make depression worse.
My experience is I had an episode of psychotic mania, said a few strange things to people, which led me to be taken by friends to be assessed by a psychiatrist in A&E, who put me (voluntarily) in hospital. However the psychosis worsened after being put in hospital. I was treated with risperidone, and recovered within two weeks. I however about a month later became depressed.
Three months later I changed antipsychotic to aripiprazole and started taking the antidepressant citalopram. I was concerned that the risperidone was demotivating me. I noticed an improvement after a few weeks, I don't know if the risperidone was the problem or not or if it was the antidepressant that improved things.
However it brought me out of the manic episode quite quickly so it can be helpful.
