I did not have any theraputic benefits from taking Lithium. Even though I took mega-doses, my blood level never got over .5. Also, I had fine hand tremor from taking the med. I discontinued this medication, without my pdoc's approval, even though I should have talked to him about it.
Lithium only cost me a few dollars...even before disability benefits, because it had a generic equivalent. (I took lithium extended release.)

Lithium is the original and the best. I was on it for 13+ years.
I don't recommend it for anti-manic qualities.
I discontinued it from my worry about failed kidneys, which is a higher risk the longer you are on lithium. Additionally, I didn't like how it exacerbated my acne. If I lose my insurance, I will go back on lithium. It's one of the least expensive out there.
My hand tremor side-effect went away after about three months. Another side-effect I had was edema (water-retention). In hot weather, my skin got puffy and red, but I didn't sweat.
