Dear Members,
Research has shown that submissiveness is often a problem in depression.
Submissiveness is defined as:
Is overly submissive or passive with others. Could you please tell our community if submissiveness was part of your depression, and what made this better or worse.
Your comments will greatly help others facing these same problems.

This one depends on the context. With my family, I had no trouble with leadership. However, my first pdoc ended up intimidating me to a great extent, so I did not stand up for myself as I should have with him. I was very ill at the time and simply didn't have the wherewithall to fight him.

Hi, When I feel depressed, I act more submissive and passive than usual.

Submissiveness I have a major problem with this. It doesn't start off with me being depressed but it usually ends that way. What can be done about this?

Once I am depressed, or on my way down, I find that my usual vigor is suppressed and I give in to those that I shouldn't. I don't do anything I object to so much, i just tolerate abuse.
To me, abuse and submissiveness are synonomous, I listen to people yell at me, I back down to make them happy.
Technically, I link this to my childhood, my mother was aggressive and mean in her depressions, I could not express myself fully and when I did, I was met with meanness and excessive punishments. To this day, I remember being hit with a hairbrush that mad me bleed. I remember switches, and mostly I remember that she would hit me in the face.
What have I done about it, well, I do my best to be aware when I am being mistreated. Sometimes I stand up to it, but often, I shouldn't put up with it at all. I have ex's that were excessively dominant over me, and I link that to my submissiveness and depressions. I didn't try for better.
Sometimes, I just walk away. And when I was younger, I use to get angry about it (and people would say I was the one with the temper, when I am pretty sure, it was people seeking to dominant me.)
Nothing is fixed. I just try to manage it. Awareness helps.
