FINALLY!! IT'S NOT OUR PARENTING SKILLS AT ALL, and we have something to work with! After about 3 years of family therapy focused on my daughter's behavior with a Behavioral Psychiatrist who diagnosed ODD and NO (ZERO) MEDS, I took her to a Pediatric Neurologist who believes she has BP. She prescribed Risperdal and I swear after only 1 week of .5 mg, there is a difference!! She started 1.0 mg yesterday. I don't know if BP is the most accurate dx, but no one who knows the "real daughter" blinked an eye at this diagnosis. It was in the back of my mind for about a year and we noticed something amiss when she was 4-5. I remember telling her Kindergarden teacher the first day of class to watch for her 'anger'. Of course no teacher has EVER seen her the way she lets go when she's alone with her family (and the psychiatrist). I've recently changed from Wellbutrin to Zoloft and have more patience with her, (less anxiety) so I hope this family is getting somewhere! By the way, what is PDOC? I'll be here often. Any thoughts?
I'm glad you finally feel you have something to work with. I feel lucky that I knew a lot about BD before my son started to show symptoms, so it was easier for me to deal with. Now that you know what it is, I hope you r family life is a little less stressful!
