I'm a new member, going through Cymbalta detox, and looking for natural and drug free ways to combat my life long battle with insomnia, anorexia, and social anxiety disorder (and per my new psychotherapist brought on by my lifetime of abuse at the hands of my mother - but more about that later; I want to share my story and find out if anyone else had the same experience I did.) It is 1:42 AM on the west coast and I am wide awake! I am now seven days off of Cymbalta, and tonight I haven't been able to sleep because my legs won't stop twitching and my brain won't stop tweaking. The latest withdrawal symptom! Its now 4:18 AM west coast time and still haven't slept. This is me, all twitchy! |

Hi Leslie and welcome to this community. I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I am not familiar with Cymbalta detox but I definitely know about insomnia and twitching legs. I have been battling insomnia for a long time now and I know how frustrating it can be not to be able to settle down to sleep. I also have restless leg syndrome which causes my legs to twitch and irritate me. (Probably not the same thing as you but I know how annoying it is). My hope for you is that the insomnia and twitching will pass as your body adjusts during your detox. Did your doctor advise you about going off of the meds and is your doctor keeping close tabs on you as you do this detox? It is very important that you have professionals close at hand as going off of meds "cold turkey" or even weaning off them can be complicated and even dangerous at times. Hang in there Leslie and be patient with yourself. It sounds like you are really working on getting well and I hope the very best for you. Us insomniacs have to stick together! You never know, you might just catch me online at all hours of the night. At least we'll have someone to talk to when everyone else is sleeping huh? LOL If you would like to talk by way of email, you can write me at judycrawford@shaw.ca (I'm usually skulking around on the internet when I can't sleep.) Take care, Jude

I am currently going through Cymbalta detoxification. I have been off all medication for three days now going on my fourth day of mental chaos. I knew I would have a headache but the dizziness is just awful. My friend describes it as motion sickness. It helps when I close my eyes, but I don't want to sleep my days away. Lately I have not been able to drive so I just grin and bare these days. I cannot read my text books and I am afraid of failing my course. My mood swings get bad and I just tell my family to forgive me if I snap. I feel like my brain is swimming and does not know how manage besides sleeping. I notice I am more emotional and I cannot tell if its my depression or just these detox symptoms. I feel like life is just okay and that should be a good feeling. Emotionally I am a bit raw however its better than what I experienced the year and a half I have been on many different anti-depressants. I am tired of medicine. To sleep at night I use CALM. It basically is magnesium which our bodies lack. I take a teaspoon with warm water and I fall asleep well at night but my brain feels detached from my head during the day. Anyone have suggestion on getting rid of the brain swinging behind my eyes?

Hello fellow Cymbalta Detox friend. For your insomnia I suggest Natural CALM (a relaxing magnesium supplement). With one teaspoon, and an 1oz of warm water this natural remedy helps me sleep the evening. I hope that helps you LeslieR.

I am really struggling. Thank God I have only been taking 30 mg cymbalta, seems that the withdrawal symptoms are much worse coming off of 60 mg, but....am so nervous, irritable, anxious, can't sleep, cry at the drop of a hat, headaches, can't stand NOISE. I have FMS and RA, and apparently the cymbalta provided some pain relief because the pain levels have been ratcheted up since I started weaning off.
First I took my Dr's advice and took one every other day. That made me so angry and emotionally unstable I just wasn't willing to keep doing it. The Dr said if I took one every other day for 2 wks, after that I wouldn't need it any more. That makes absolutely no sense to me! Seems like doing that would just be totally confusing my brain...."ok, today, you get the brain chemicals, tomorrow you don't". Was this Dr trying to get me put in the hospital???
Anyway, I've been taking 1/2 cymbalta every day for a week now. At first I felt much better than I did when I was taking 1 every other day. But in the last few days my mind has definitely been a bad neighborhood! Been having thoughts that no one loves me or likes me or cares about me...pathetic self pity thoughts like that....crying....
Really want to get off this because of the side effects! I suppose my plan is to keep taking 1/2 every day for another week then take 1/2 every other day for a week....
But am debating taking lexapro starting today. But then I have to wean off of that??? Any advice??? |
